Currently, you can choose from English (US/Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and United Kingdom versions available), French, German, Italian or Spanish as your preferred language on your Portal. To choose a language, simply connect your Portal to a wireless network to update your software, then select your language.
Content on your Portal is only available in the language(s) supported by the applicable content partner - this means not everything is supported in both English and your preferred language.
Portal Voice Commands Availability
Currently, the “Hey Portal” wake word for Portal voice commands is only available in English (US/Canada/UK) and Spanish (US). Note the Device Language on your Portal for Spanish (US) is called Espanol (America Latina). If you select English (US/Canada), Portal voice commands is also available. Learn how to change your Portal wake word in Assistant settings. Portal voice commands will be disabled if you select any language other than English (US/Canada/UK) or Spanish (US) as your preferred language on your Portal. WhatsApp calling using “Hey Portal” is currently unavailable if you have selected Spanish (US) as your preferred language on your Portal. You can still make calls on your Portal using the touch screen, and we’re hard at work to add voice command functionality in additional languages. Additionally, Portal voice commands are currently not available if you have only linked your Workplace account to your Portal (and not your Facebook or WhatsApp accounts).
We may install third-party applications on your Portal TV during initial setup. For a list of those applications, including their terms, privacy statements, and applicable fees, please visit portal.facebook.com/legal/preload/. These applications can be uninstalled at any time by pressing and holding the icons on the Portal’s home screen.
