You can ask Portal to help with calling, music, setting timers or alarms, weather and more.
When Portal hears the wake word, “Hey Portal,” it will start to record your voice interaction and create a computer-generated transcription of the recording.
“Hey Portal” works independently from other voice services such as Amazon Alexa.
Stored “Hey Portal” voice interactions are kept on Facebook servers for up to 3 years. We delete “false wakes” within 90 days of detection.
If your Portal is shared, then all 'Hey Portal' voice interactions and settings for that device will be accessible to you and the other owners.
Some third party apps or services on Portal, like Spotify, will respond to your “Hey Portal” voice commands.
We have a team of vetted, trained transcription vendors and select Facebook employees who assist in reviewing “Hey Portal” voice interactions.
We use both machine processes and human reviewers to train our voice services so that we can more accurately respond to your voice commands.
“Hey Portal” voice interactions are used in a few different ways.

You can connect to Alexa during the initial setup of your Portal TV, or from the Settings menu.
